My Story

A bit about myself and my journey

Hey pretty people, I’m Alex Turner, an audio technician and the brain behind this blog.

Before you doubt my credentials,

You have guessed it right, I am that GUY! I have a Masters Degree in Music Technology from NYU Steinhardt.

Since my teens, I’ve been passionate about music and audio products. It grew more as one of my friends, who was 12 years older than me, had a knack for the latest tech products including headphones and speakers.

Like most of us, I started with cheap audio products, a Discman, and $10 wired earbuds. Things changed when I went to a Hi-fi audio store with my father. There I tried the latest Audio Technica ATH-A900s headphones connected to a Creative SoundblasterX G6 headphone amp.

That setup brought out details and instruments that I haven’t heard (on my $10 wired earbuds) with songs like David Bowie’s Heroes, Queen’s We Will Rock You, and Train’s Drops of Jupiter. Even now, these three songs are my first picks when testing out a new headphone, earbuds, or an audio system.

While the setup cost a bomb, it piqued my interest in highly detailed audio and high-fidelity audio products. Any chance I get, I’d visit that store and a few others and listen to music on different headphones and amp setups.

Professional Experience

Why would you trust a random dude on the internet for audio advice, right?

That’s why, here’s a list of a few jobs and work I’ve done that makes me a little qualified to help you make your audio purchases.

Sales Specialist – Audio Konnect (2011-2014)

I started this job in high school to get my deep dive into hi-fi audio products and also to make money doing something I love.

My first job made me learn better about audio products and pairing different types of audio systems. Along the way, I also learned a few sales tricks, which come handy now that I run my own business.

Sales & Marketing – Living in Stereo (2015-2017)

Living in Stereo was just a few blocks away from NYU Stienhardt, where I worked in the sales and marketing department.

The store wasn’t anything special, but since it was in the middle of Lower Manhattan, I saw plenty of audiophiles on a daily basis.

Some of them would also buy audio equipment costing over $100,000 in one go, especially for their home theaters.

Manager – Out of Planet Recording Studio (2017-2019)

I started working as a manager at a nearby recording studios to put my education to good use,

Apart from hi-end headphones and speakers, I worked with numerous musical instruments and got to experience the whole new world of music production.

Here, I met a few recording artists before they became famous and I’m still in contact with a few.

Store Manager – Audio46 (2019-2023)

My biggest breakthrough came when I completed my Master Degree and applied to Audio46. For the unknown, Audio46 is the biggest brand for hi-fi and audio equipment.

For the first year, I managed their Lower Manhattan store, then started managing their three stores in the second year. Before I left I was managing five stores, which involved a lot of travel too.

At Audio46, I tested the latest audio tech even before the market launched.

Here, I would see a new wave of modern tech infused in speakers, headphones and earbuds. The customers I met at Audio46 were younger and other than sound quality, were also interested in the features their headphones/earbuds came with.

Author – LyfeAudio (2024-current)

I started LyfeAudio.com as a hobby blog and I try to answer simple to advance questions readers have about consumer audio products.

Since I have these new audio products coming in every day, I decided to use them to my advantage and start a website to review these products and also offer troubleshooting guides.

Most audio-related websites use complicated jargon to write their reviews, which most people don’t understand.

With LyfeAudio, I want to cater to a younger audience and make complicated audio knowledge seem very simple.
